May 19, 1922 – July 19, 2008
On Saturday, July 19, 2008, Gloria passed on to her place with the angels in the same gracious and uncomplaining manner that she lived all of her life. Gloria was born in Columbus, Ohio on May 19, 1922, and moved to El Paso, Texas with her family at the age of three. Gloria graduated from El Paso High School and immediately went to work as a proficient and dedicated secretary to a bank president in El Paso. She continued her secretarial career after moving to Denver, Colorado in the mid 1960s. She met her late husband, Richard W. Stalker, while there, and they were married on June 14, 1968, remaining in Denver until they moved to Bend, Oregon in 1991.
Gloria was shy and unassuming by nature, but once friendship was established, she was as devoted and generous to her friends as she was to her family. Gloria is survived by her niece, Joan M. Himel, of Gallup, NM, and her nephew, Robert ”Bobby” V. Elmgren of Bethlehem, PA, her grandniece, Bede Himel Hubel and her daughter and husband, Morgan Hubel and Ryan Hubel, of West Linn, OR, her grandnephew, Josh Himel and his daughter and wife, Lia Himel and Katie Himel of West Linn, OR, her grandniece, Dawn Mallard and her daughter, Jordan Hall, of Helena, MT, her grandnephew, Russell Mallard, and his sons, Michael and Douglas, of Helena, MT.
Gloria established a very special friendship with Forrest Hanna during her last few years in Bend, and the family wishes to recognize him for his care and devotion to her and for his generosity in seeing to it that she was well cared for and was able to enjoy her favorite places and for frequently bringing her biscuits and gravy, her special menu item. The family also gives special thanks to Bend Hospice personnel, to Evergreen In-Home Care Services personnel, to Betty ”Sweet Pea” Silva for the love that she gave to Gloria throughout each night during her final months, and to Mary Fuller for her care and assistance. Gloria was preceded in death by her dear mother, Irene Tinnon VanSchoyck, her father, Clayton VanSchoyck, her brother, Ira VanSchoyck, her sister, Marie V. Himel, and her beloved nephew, James H. Himel, Jr.
