Umpqua Bank is warning its customers about a current telephone scam that attempts to dupe people into turning over sensitive account information. According to the bank, customers in Southern Oregon have reported receiving a fraudulent phone call that asks people to confirm their account information because their debit card has been compromised or blocked. The bank says it does monitor card activity for customer security and may call to verify certain account activity, but it never asks for a customer’s card number, PIN, expiration date or three-digit card security code. Customers should report any fraudulent telephone calls to the bank by calling 866-486-7782.
