Patricia Ann Haphey, known as Pat to her friends, passed peacefully away at home Sunday, August 31, 2008 in the arms of her loving husband, Bruce. Surrounding her were her cherished son, Bruce Jr., sister, Janis, sister-in-law, Allison, and brother and sister- in-law, Bob and Kristy.
She was born in Pelham, Georgia July 3, 1941. Pat moved with her two brothers and sister to Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, where she completed high school, and where she met Bruce. They married on July 5, 1959, and in the summer of 1961 left for a wonderful three-year tour of duty in Hawaii, followed by a year at Langley AFB, in Virginia, where they decided to leave the military for civilian life. In September of 1964 they moved to the Willamette Valley, residing in Albany until 1975.
Pat and Bruce lived in Canby from 1975 to 2000, where Bruce worked in the metals industry, Pat devoted herself to her family while working full time as executive secretary to the president of Willamette Industries, and doing public service work with the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of America, where she served as president of several chapters, and received many awards and recognition for her work. She pursued this activity in the Central Oregon area after her retirement in June of 2000, when she and Bruce retired to Sisters to build their dream home.
Pat is survived by her husband, Bruce, her son, Bruce Jr. and his wife, Kellie, two grandsons, Brittson and Graham, granddaughter, Erin, brothers, Frank in Tennessee and Donny in Georgia, sister, Janis in Portland, OR, and mother, Janie in Georgia.
