Details: Cowboy Corner, a new market and deli, is going up on a site that has been home to a grocery and convenience store since the early 1950s.
Located across from Crook County Christian School and Crook County High School, Cowboy Corner replaces the former Main Stop Market, which was razed last December.
Cowboy Corner was named for its place in Crook County, which is “the cowboy capital of Oregon,” said Ron Richardson, owner and developer of the project.
The 3,900-square-foot, two-story building, which is slated for completion by mid-November, also includes 1,000 square feet of commercial office space and a small private office. The commercial space will lease for $1 per square foot, Richardson said.
Richardson, a Prineville builder and developer, will operate the market and deli. He bought Main Stop Market last year before tearing it down. He started construction on Cowboy Corner on June 3.
“I thought it was a terrific corner on a busy intersection,” Richardson said. “I purchased it for that reason. I came to the conclusion that there was a need for another market there.”
The Cowboy Corner will sell sandwiches made with barbecued meat, including tri-tip, smoked turkey and ham, Richardson said. The meat will be cooked on a wood-pellet grill, he said.
