Cougars make finals

Brady Brent scored 24 points for the second consecutive game and Pat Cashman added 18 as Mountain View defeated North Salem 79-58 in the semifinal round of Summit’s Les Schwab Holiday Invitational on Tuesday.

Brent added 12 rebounds and Cashman finished the game with four assists and zero turnovers from his point guard position.

The win places the Cougars (7-0) in today’s championship game against the host Storm.

After a high-scoring first quarter, Mountain View led 25-22. The Cougars pulled away in the second period, outscoring the Vikings 25-13.

Today’s championship game starts at 12:30 p.m.

REDMOND — Rae Keener scored a game-high 16 points and Bre Meulink added 14 as the Panthers rolled to victory at their home tournament. Margo Capps contributed to the Panthers multi-pronged attack scoring two points, grabbing six rebounds and recording three assists.

STAYTON — The Hawks raced out to a 13-2 first-quarter lead and never let the Rams in the game. Kassi Conditt led all scorers with 24 points. Maria Ramirez had eight points, seven steals and six assists for La Pine in the championship game of the Regis Tournament.

Down by 12 after the third quarter, the Storm outscored the Colts 15-4 in the final period, but missed the go-ahead shot on their final possession. Christy Mosier led Summit (5-2) with 13 points.

LAKE OSWEGO — Katie Bartholomew and Kylie Durre both scored a team-high nine points, but their Cougars fell short in double overtime in both teams’ final game at the Lake Oswego Interstate Shootout.

The Lava Bears suffered a scoreless second quarter in their loss to the Highlanders in the semifinal round of the Summit Holiday Tournament. North Eugene led 10-6 at the end of the first quarter before outscoring Bend 16-0 in the second period. No player for the Lava Bears scored more than six points.

SISTERS — The White Buffaloes finished the Sisters Tournament 1-1 after falling to the Gladiators. Karlen Yallup led Madras with 15 points, and freshman Abby Scott added 14.

COOS BAY — Danni Severance scored a game-high 14 points for the Cowgirls, but Crook County was outscored 16-12 in the fourth quarter by Myrtle Point.

SISTERS — After the Outlaws played Burns close in the opening quarters, the visiting Hilanders pulled away in the third quarter as Sisters (1-8) struggled to execute offensively. Kianna Jimeniz led the Outlaws with eight points on the second day of Sisters Tournament.

CULVER — The Bulldogs dropped to 2-5 with their second loss at their own tournament. Kaylee Ramey led Culver with 10 points.

CULVER — Hayley Estopare scored a game-high 13 points to lead the Storm JV past Gilchrist in the consolation game of the Culver Tournament. Kali Smith and Kendra Page each had 10 points for the Grizzlies (3-4).

REDMOND — Michael Leunen posted 16 points, Kyle Baca had 14 and Mitch Dahlen finished with 10 in the Panthers’ home win. Baca made four crucial free throws in the final period as Redmond (5-4) found its way to the foul line 32 times.

The Lava Bears dropped their second game of the Summit Holiday Tournament, losing to the Jaguars after falling behind 22-8 in the first quarter. Zach Reynolds led Bend with 13 points.

WILSONVILLE — Turner Gill led Madras (3-5) with 19 points in the White Buffaloes’ second loss at the Wilsonville Tournament.

STAYTON — Mike Stenberg of La Pine grabbed 10 rebounds, blocked five shots and scored two points in the Hawks’ final game a the Regis tournament. The 6-foot-7-inch junior earned all-tournament honors.

SISTERS — Levi Rowe led Sisters as the Outlaws won their own tournament. Rowe scored a game-high 10 points, and teammate Ross Erickson followed with nine. The Outlaws (6-1) host Cascade on Saturday.

CULVER — Mitch Wettig led the Summit junior varsity squad with 14 points as the Storm secured third place in the two-day Culver Tournament. Ryan Stinson scored 16 points and buried two three-point field goals for Gilchrist.

Bend JV 74

CULVER — Joey Apodaca scored a team-high 23 points for the Bend JV as the Lava Bears vaulted into a commanding lead after outscoring Culver 34-13 in the third quarter. Nevin Lewis finished with a game-high 24 points for Culver.

WRESTLING

Redmond wrestles to runner-up finish in Pendleton

PENDLETON — Taylor Johnson pinned all five of his opponents in the first round at the Free-Berry Invitational in Pendleton on Tuesday, leading Redmond to a second-place finish behind Moses Lake, Wash.

Ryan Haney (103 pounds), Nick Coles ((125), Sean Soliz (130) and Ben Baca (215) all placed second in their weight classes.

Madras finished fifth and Culver placed 10th at the 15-team wrestling tournament.

Rodney Smith paced the White Buffaloes with a runner-up finish at 135 pounds. Nathan Monroe (130 pounds), Stephen Scranton (135) and Woody Williams (285) all placed third for Madras. Scranton had a particularly impressive run, winning six consecutive matches in the consolation bracket for his third-place finish.

Justin Bunch (103, sixth), Josue Gonzalez (112, sixth), Ryan Kasch (119, fourth) and Austin Alley (189, fifth) placed for Culver.

Cougars drop three at Northwest Duals

BEAVERTON — David Pike and Danny Cupp were the only Cougars to go undefeated — both 3-0 — on Tuesday at the Northwest Duals wrestling tournament. Overall, Pike finished the two-day event at 4-2, and Cupp finished at 3-3. Mountain View went 0-3 during the final day of the tournament. Crook County, which went 4-0 at the tourney on Monday, went 1-3 on Tuesday .
