EUGENE — Oregon’s Department of Environmental Quality says authorities spent the weekend working on a diesel spill that reached a stretch of the Willamette River and left an odorous, oil sheen on the water.
The state says that on Saturday employees of Tyree Oil Inc. in Eugene noticed an above-ground storage tank was leaking.
Company owner Ron Tyree says it is unclear how long the tank had been leaking. But as much as 500 gallons of diesel had seeped out.
Tyree says that while the faulty tank is “older,” it had been in compliance with all local, state and federal regulatory agencies.
