SUN VALLEY, Idaho — Bend’s Marshall Greene finished second by a fraction of a second, highlighting performances by a long list of Central Oregonians who took part Saturday in the 2009 Boulder Mountain Tour cross-country ski race.
Over a 32-kilometer central Idaho course from Galena Lodge to the Sawtooth National Recreation Headquarters near Ketchum, Greene posted a time of 1 hour, 10 minutes, 55.8 seconds. That was just one-tenth of a second behind the winning time of 1:10:55.7 clocked by Zack Simons, of team Rossignol of Utah.
Other leading Central Oregon finishers included Bend’s Zach Violett, who was 14th in 1:12:53.0, and Paul Clark, also of Bend, who placed 25th in 1:15:08.8.
Another Bend skier, Evelyn Dong, finished 37th overall and third among women with a time of 1:17:24.8.
In all, 689 skiers — 412 men and 277 women — finished the gently rolling course, which included an elevation drop of 1,100 feet over its 20-mile distance.
