Leunen leads Redmond past McKay

REDMOND — Michael Leunen scored 27 points and Redmond outlasted McKay 70-60 in a Central Valley Conference boys basketball matchup on Tuesday night.
Though the Panthers (6-2 CVC, 12-8) held a slim advantage throughout, McKay fought back in the third quarter and matched Redmond 16-16. Leunen, however, scored 12 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter to boost the home team to victory.

Senior guard Kyle Baca added 20 points and junior Tyler Perdue tallied six steals for the Panthers.
Redmond travels to meet West Salem on Friday.

MADRAS — The Lava Bears extended their Intermountain Conference winning streak to four games, keeping alive Bend’s playoff hopes. Karleigh Taylor scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to pace the Lava Bears (5-6 IMC, 8-13 overall) in their fifth league victory of the season. Karlen Yallup led the White Buffaloes (4-7 IMC, 8-11) with 14 points. Bend High is at The Dalles-Wahtonka on Friday, and Madras hosts Mountain View on the same day.

PLEASANT HILL — Danielle Allen and Susan Ruettgers both scored in double figures to lead Sisters past host Pleasant Hill in overtime in Sky-Em League action. Ruettgers completed a double-double by collecting 11 rebounds to go along with her 11 points for the Outlaws (4-6 Sky-Em, 6-12 overall), who host Junction City on Friday.

LEBANON — East Linn Christian led the from the start, while Culver battled to catch up in the Tri-River Conference battle. McKaylee Speas led the visiting squad with 17 points in the loss. Culver is on the road at Western Mennonite on Thursday.

ARLINGTON — Ashlyn Hanson scored a team-high 11 points to lead the White Tigers (5-16 overall) to their third Big Sky League victory of the season. Central Christian/Crook County Christian trailed 12-4 after the first quarter but outscored the Honkers 39-32 the rest of the game. The White Tigers host Horizon Christian on Friday.

Taylor Raterman’s breakout performance helped the host Lava Bears pull off the upset over Madras, the Intermountain Conference top squad. Bend’s sophomore wing scored a game- and season-high 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds to bring the Lava Bears to 3-7 in conference play, keeping hope alive for an outside shot at the Class 5A playoffs. Austin Say scored 12 points to lead Madras (8-2 IMC, 12-7 overall), which plays at Mountain View on Friday. Bend (5-14 overall) hosts The Dalles-Wahtonka on the same day.

After an even 14-14 first quarter, host Mountain View rallied to score 21 points in the second period while holding The Dalles-Wahtonka to three points. Brady Brent led the Cougars (7-3 IMC, 15-3 overall) with 22 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in the home win. Mountain View hosts Madras on Friday night in an IMC matchup between the league’s top two teams.

PLEASANT HILL — Ross Erickson scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but the Outlaws dropped their fifth Sky-Em League game of the season. Levi Rowe added nine points and Kevin Wistrom contributed six points and nine rebounds for Sisters (5-5 Sky Em, 12-6 overall). The Outlaws host Junction City on Friday.

LEBANON — Nevin Lewis scored a game-high 25 points, but his Culver team suffered a road loss after Tri-River Conference rival East Linn Christian sank clutch free throws to seal the victory. Riley Gibson added 13 points for the Bulldogs (3-12 Tri-River. 8-14 overall), who play Western Mennonite on Thursday.

ARLINGTON — Aaron Phillips (21 points), Kyle Wood (18 points) and Cody Wood (15 points) all scored in double digits to lead the White Tigers in the road win. Central Christian/Crook County Christian (5-9 Big Sky, 8-12 overall) led 19-7 after the first quarter and was never seriously threatened in the second half. Horizon Christian travels to Prineville to play the White Tigers on Friday.
