Tom Selleck

As the title character of “Magnum, P.I.,” Tom Selleck used to spend as much time flirting with the camera as tracking down bad guys.

It’s a different story for Selleck nowadays as the hero of the “Jesse Stone” movies. In his tiny, narrow-minded town of Paradise, Mass., Stone spends a lot of his time bored as police chief, brooding and subsisting on a diet of coffee and Scotch whisky. He also does a good job of solving the unlikely crimes that crop up in this isolated corner of the world. But there’s not much job satisfaction. Or job security.

After two years, Selleck is back for the fifth installment of his CBS movie franchise. “Jesse Stone: Thin Ice” airs at 9 tonight.

In this new tale, Stone gets in hot water with the town council when he inadvertently becomes involved in a shoot-out on a Boston street — far from where he’s paid to maintain order.

He further defies the council by taking on the case of an out-of-towner who shows up in search of her missing child.

“You can fire me,” Stone tells a councilman. “But you can’t tell me what to do.”

Other shows to look out for:

“Angel of Death” series 9 p.m. Monday, Crackle.com

Are Web dramas ready for prime time? A new online series packs lots of violence and four-letter words into each eight- to 10-minute episode, so it won’t be for everyone. But the production values of “Angel of Death” are unusually rich. This Crackle.com series could be considered a step forward for Web dramas. Zoe Bell stars as Eve, a cold-blooded killer who unexpectedly develops a conscience. Employed by a ruthless crime family, she suffers a daunting on-the-job injury (a knife is plunged through her skull). Though cheating death, she begins to suffer hallucinations and feels haunted by her many past victims. She decides to seek redemption by wreaking revenge on her mob employers. Bell is joined in the cast by Doug Jones (“Hellboy”), Vail Bloom (“The Young and the Restless”) and Lucy Lawless (“Xena: Warrior Princess”). Each of the 10 episodes of “Angel” premieres daily starting Monday.

“Kitchen Impossible” 9 p.m. Wednesday, DIY

Relax. “Kitchen Impossible” isn’t the title of a show about people who can’t cook. It’s a new series that cooks up solutions for transforming the kitchen into a more livable, productive and beautiful place. Host Marc Bartolomeo, a longtime carpenter and electrician, offers recipes for renovation projects that range from installing tile to removing a wall to increasing the kitchen’s working area. The premiere episode helps homeowners Vernon and Nicole Davis make the most of their tiny kitchen space.
