SAN FRANCISCO — Apple Inc. updated its line of iMac and Mac mini desktop computers Tuesday in a move that may have disappointed those who were expecting a dramatic move from the company. Before Tuesday, rumors swirled that Apple was planning a major overhaul to its iMac line to be unveiled later this month. Many were also expecting the company to reduce its prices to underpin demand in the slumping economy. Analysts now call such moves unlikely.

In a statement, the company said that it has cut the price of its 24-inch iMac desktop to $1,499 from $1,799 and that the model now has twice the memory and storage capacity of its predecessor.

Apple also increased the capabilities of its 20-inch iMac, leaving its starting price at $1,199. Additionally, Apple boosted the specifications of its Mac mini computers, leaving a $599 starting price tag on the unit. The Mac mini doesn’t come with a keyboard, monitor or mouse.
