PORTLAND — The U.S. Coast Guard says a tugboat pushing three empty grain barges has banged one of them into the pylon of the Hood River Bridge across the Columbia River.

The guard says the bridge wasn’t damaged.

The barge had minor damage but was judged safe for continued operations.

The accident involving the Tug Defiance happened about 3:20 a.m. Saturday.

The Port of Hood River bridge links Hood River in Oregon and White Salmon, Wash., and remains open for traffic.
