SILVERTON — A production crew has been trailing Silverton’s transgender mayor for a possible reality show.
Stu Rasmussen is the first openly transgender mayor in the nation.
RDF USA, the production company, began filming at Monday’s City Council meeting. The crew wrapped up work Wednesday.
RDF manager of development Sara Hansemann told the Salem Statesman Journal the company will edit the footage over the next several weeks. Then it will be pitched to television networks. “We don’t undertake a project without doing our research,” Hansemann said. “We have potential buyers in mind.”
Rasmussen, 60, was elected in November.
“I think it will be an interesting project if it comes together, but I think we have to be on top of this to make sure that it shows Silverton in the best possible light,” he said.
Rasmussen, who has long red hair and a penchant for low-cut blouses, is a software engineer and co-owner of the Palace Theatre in Silverton.
He had twice before served as mayor of Silverton, before he had breast implants and started dressing as a woman in public.
He and girlfriend Victoria Sage have been together for more than 30 years. She’s not too excited about the idea of a reality show.
“I think it could be good for Silverton, but it’s definitely not my thing,” Sage said.
Rasmussen asked the City Council for permission before undertaking the project.
“From what I’ve seen of reality television shows, they often skew a lot of the information,” councilwoman Judy Schmidt said. “I don’t know if I have enough information yet to make a judgment, but I’m cautious about it. I think preserving the dignity and integrity of our town is very important.”
