Discussion on workers’ rights, mariachi band at Fiesta Latina

A Fiesta Latina will be held from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday at Bend’s Community Center. The fiesta will include live music, dancing, food, refreshments and a piñata for children.
The event begins at 5 p.m. with presentations on immigration reform and workers’ rights. The speakers are Fernando Gapasin, the president of the Central Oregon Labor Council; Francisco Lopez of CAUSA, Oregon’s immigrant rights coalition; Fernando Ghio, an immigration attorney; and Ramon Ramirez, the president of Pineros y Campesinos Unidos del Noreste, the Oregon farmworkers’ union.
Entertainment will be provided by Ballet Folklorico, a mariachi band and a drum group. A DJ will play dancing music starting at 8:30 p.m.
Sponsors of the event are Central Oregon Jobs With Justice, Recursos Para Derechos Humanos de Central Oregon and the Central Oregon Labor Council.
The community center is located at 1036 N.E. Fifth St. in Bend.
A donation of $5 is suggested for admission.
