Heavy rainfall helped firefighters quickly contain two new lightning-caused fires reported on Sunday, and they also reached 100 percent containment on the Geneva 6 Fire that began Friday near Crooked River Ranch, according to a news release from the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center.

Fire crews achieved 100 percent containment of the 102-acre Geneva 6 Fire at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The fire is located four miles west of Crooked River Ranch, in the Ochoco National Forest and Crooked River National Grassland, and 12 miles northeast of Sisters.

Along the west side of the John Day River Canyon, the Green Grass Fire that began at about 3:33 p.m. Saturday continued to challenge firefighters Sunday, according to the news release. The wind-driven fire covered about 2,000 acres as of Sunday afternoon and was burning primarily in the Lower John Day River Area of Critical Environmental Concern.
