Ellary Porterfield, a 2007 graduate of Bend’s Summit High School, plays a prominent role in the new film “Sugar.”

Porterfield — the daughter of Walt and Traci Porterfield — previously played a leading role in the 2005 movie “The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio,” and she appeared in the TV show “Hidden Palms” a couple of years ago.

“Sugar” tells the story of a young Dominican baseball player and his time playing in the minor leagues in the United States. Porterfield plays the granddaughter of the couple who boards the young man.

The film is currently playing at Regal Pilot Butte 6 in Bend. For more information on “Sugar,” visit www.sonypictures .com/classics/sugar.
