Located less than 30 minutes from Bend, the alpine lakes of Central Oregon offer fun outings for families and individuals who want a quick day trip.

Following the Cascade Lakes Highway past Mount Bachelor, you will soon arrive at Sparks Lake, Elk Lake and Hosmer Lake, among many others.

Some lakes include hiking trails, while others are best for kayaking or canoeing.

All offer splendid photo opportunities that can turn novice shots into frame-worthy pictures.

And dont forget your bug spray if you plan on standing still.
