Last year: Vijay Singh ended an zero-for-34 drought on the PGA Tour, swirling in a 3 1/2-foot par putt for a one-shot victory over Lee Westwood and Stuart Appleby. The Fijian won for the 32nd time on the PGA Tour to break a tie with Harry Lighthorse Cooper for the most victories by an international player. Singh also won the first two FedEx Cup events The Barclays and Deutsche Bank Championship.
Last week: Tiger Woods won the Buick Open for his fourth victory of the year and 69th on the PGA Tour, beating three players by three strokes. Woods also won at Warwick Hills in 2002 and 2006. … Swedens Oskar Henningsson won the Moravia Silesia Open in the Czech Republic for his first European tour title.
Notes: The PGA Championship is next week at Hazeltine in Chaska, Minn. … Woods has won the tournament six times, sweeping the 1999-01 and 2005-07 titles. He missed the event last year because of a knee injury. In 2000, he won by 11 strokes, matching the course record with a 61 en route to a tournament-record 21-under 259 total. … Phil Mickelson is making his first start since tying for second in the U.S. Open. Mickelson, the 1996 World Series of Golf winner at Firestone, has been away for nearly two months because his wife, Amy, has breast cancer. She had surgery July 1. At about that time, Mickelson learned his mother has breast cancer and is being treated. … Singh is winless in 17 PGA Tour starts this year. … Sam Snead holds the tour record for victories in a single tournament, winning the Greensboro, N.C., event eight times.

Last week: Scotlands Catriona Matthew won the Womens British Open for her first major title, beating Karrie Webb by three strokes 10 weeks after giving birth to her second child. The 39-year-old Matthew was 3 under at Royal Lytham and St. Annes.

Last week: Fred Funk won the U.S. Senior Open by six strokes, closing with a 7-under 65 at Crooked Stick for a tournament-record 20-under total. Coming off a playoff loss to Loren Roberts in the Senior British Open, Funk broke the event mark of 17 under set by Hale Irwin in 2000 at Saucon Valley.
