July 6, 1948 – August 8, 2009

Stephen Peter Mockaitis of Bend, passed away August 8, 2009, at Fox Hollow Assisted Living facility. He was 61 years old. A Holy recitation of the Rosary will be held August 13, 2009, at 9:30 am with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 am. Both services will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church downtown.

Stephen was born July 6, 1948, to Ignatius and Josephine (Paterabas) Mockaitis in Chicago, Illinois. He was raised and educated in the Chicago area, graduating from Devry Institute of Technology where he earned his AA degree. He then worked in retail sales management and for Taylor Distributors from 1982 – 1991. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He also volunteered for the Opportunity Center Thrift Shop. Stephen was involved in numerous activities at Fox Hollow: movie coordinator and treasurer of the resident association.

His hobbies included; photography and computers.

Stephen is survived by his mother, Josephine (Paterabas) Mockaitis of Bend; three brothers, Father Timothy Mockaitis of Salem, OR, James and wife, (Nancy) Mockaitis of Bend and Michael and wife, (Valerie) Mockaitis of Chicago, Ill; one sister, Katherine and husband, (James Jr.) Chapel of Bend. One niece, Grace Mockaitis; five nephews, Alex Mockaitis, Michael and Joseph Mockaitis, James and Robert Chapel. He is preceded in death by his father, Ignatius in 1996.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Opportunity Foundation and St. Vincent de Paul (Social Services) in Bend.

The family has placed their trust in Niswonger-Reynolds Funeral Home for the final arrangements 382-2471.
