PENDLETON — Pendleton police have captured a third suspect in the stabbing death of a 23-year-old man. Waylon James Speedis of Pendleton has been charged with assault and murder and lodged in the Umatilla County jail.

Police had been looking for Speedis following the Sunday night stabbing that killed Manuel Nomee on a walkway that connects the Round-Up grounds to a road near the high school. Police Chief Stuart Roberts says informants fed his department information on Speedis and officers caught him on Interstate 84.

The 19-year-old Speedis joins his 17-year-old brother, Cody, behind bars. Cody Speedis and 18-year-old Tyler Neff were arrested Monday on an assault charge. Neff and the younger Speedis have pleaded not guilty.
