This area 10 miles southwest of Sisters is beautiful and is home to standing, dead lodgepole pine and Douglas fir, perfect for cutting firewood.
Get the proper permits and follow the cutting regulations, and your outing could yield firewood for keeping warm this winter.

Details: Firewood cutting season runs through Nov. 30. Cutting is allowed on designated U.S. Forest Service land. To obtain maps, permits and regulations, visit a Forest Service office or local vendor.
Getting there: To reach Pole Creek from Sisters, go west on state Highway 242 for 1.5 miles. Turn south on Forest Service Road 15. Cutting area starts eight miles down the road.
Cost: Permits $10 per cord; must be purchased in multiples of two; available at Forest Service offices and vendors.
