The Swell Season — Marketa Irglova and Glen Hansard — will perform two Oregon shows Nov. 23-24.

Once upon a time, a man and a woman met on the streets of Dublin and started making beautiful music together.

That’s the premise for the sleeper indie film hit, “Once,” starring musicians Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. The duo gained critical acclaim for the film’s soundtrack, winning an Academy Award in 2008 for their song, “Falling Slowly.”

Now, touring as “The Swell Season,” Hansard and Irglova will play two shows in Oregon: Nov. 23 at the McDonald Theatre in Eugene and Nov. 24 at McMenamins Crystal Ballroom in Portland.

Hansard, the lead singer, guitarist and a founding member of the Irish rock group The Frames, met classically trained Czech pianist and vocalist Irglova while visiting Prague. Critics have characterized their music as “glorious,” “haunting,” “gorgeous” and “lush,” according to a press release.

They are promoting their newest CD, “Strict Joy.” Borrowing its name from a work by Irish poet James Stephens, the album features 12 new, original songs about a tumultuous relationship. Tracks include “Low Rising,” “The Verb” and “I Have Loved You Wrong.”

Tickets for the Eugene show are $30 in advance, $35 day of show. To purchase tickets, contact TicketsWest at 800-992-8499 or visit www.ticketswest.com. Tickets for the Portland show are $30. To purchase, contact Ticketmaster at 866-866-4502 or visit www .ticketmaster.com.
