NEW YORK — Writing the next Great American Novel, but need a little inspiration?
Consider the 1958 Olivetti that Cormac McCarthy used to write his novels, including “The Road” and “No Country for Old Men.” Both books were turned into movies.
Christie’s will auction McCarthy’s metal dinosaur Friday and says it could sell for $15,000 to $20,000. A blue carrying case and the author’s letter of authentication will be included. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the nonprofit Santa Fe Institute in New Mexico, where McCarthy lives.
The 76-year-old writer purchased his typewriter for $50, and used it nonstop until this year. A friend has found him a nearly identical replacement for about $11.
