Texan Bob Schneider brings fine pop-rock to The Annex

Whoa. I think I have a new guy to add to my stable of favorite musicians.

Here’s how it went down: I sat at my computer to write this brief and popped in Bob Schneider’s new album “Lovely Creatures.” I’d never heard of the guy, really, but knew he’s from Austin, Texas, and specializes in instantly memorable pop-rock.

Indeed he does. By the third track, “40 Dogs (For Romeo And Juliet),” I was hooked on Schneider’s exquisite melodies, intriguing lyrics and incorporation of Latin sounds into his work.

Then I went to his Web site (www.bob schneidermusic.com) and was bowled over by its self-deprecating and foul-mouthed wit, a reflection, no doubt, of its subject. Schneider is known as an engaging entertainer who has built a solid fan base through hard work and a sense of humor.

Bob Schneider, with Anastacia Beth Scott; 9 p.m. Saturday, doors open 8 p.m.; $16 plus service charges in advance, $18 at the door. Advance tickets available at Ranch Records (541-389-6116) in Bend and through Ticketswest at www.ticketswest.com, 800-992-8499, and the Safeway at 642 N.E. Third St., in Bend; The Annex, 51 N.W. Greenwood Ave., Bend; www.randompresents.com.
