Walter ”Walt” D. Porter of Redmond, died on Dec. 24, 2009, at the age of 73 years. He was born Oct. 7, 1936, in Greensville, TX to parents, John and Mamie (McClinton) Porter. He grew up in Gresham, OR, and on June 29, 1957, he was united in marriage to Shirley Lundrigan in Vancouver, WA.
Walt was a fireman for 28 years and Fire Chief of Multnomah County for five years before retiring and moving from Sandy, OR to Redmond, OR, 17 years ago.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling.
Besides his wife, he leaves one son, John Porter of Lake Havasu, AZ; three daughters, Cindy McNew of Centralia, WA, Cheryl Van Beek of Sandy, OR, and Carolyn Sharpe of Oregon City, OR; brother, Odas Porter of Salem, OR; sisters, Opal Smith of Midland, TX, Jewel Baker of Salem, OR, and Betty Dillard of Gresham, OR.
There are 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
