Longtime wrestling advocates Kurt Davis and Chuck Holliday will be honored on Saturday at Crook County High School’s four-team dual tournament in Prineville.
The two Central Oregon residents have been elected to the Oregon Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. A ceremony to recognize their induction is scheduled to take place May 1 at the Holiday Inn in Wilsonville.
Davis has been involved in wrestling in all facets of the sport. After wrestling in college at Western Oregon University in Monmouth, he coached at the high school level, making stops at Astoria, Portland’s Grant High, Redmond and Culver. He also officiated the sport for over 30 years, working everything from middle-school meets to Civil War duals between the University of Oregon and Oregon State.
Holliday, who won a state title at 178 pounds for Crook County High School (then called Prineville High) in 1962 and wrestled at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, served as a longtime assistant coach for Crook County High.
Saturday’s tournament, which will include Crook County, Culver, Burns and Cascade, starts at 10:30 a.m. and will be staged at Crook County Middle School.
