For the second consecutive survey period, more radio listeners in Central Oregon were tuned to country music station KSJJ (102.9 FM) than any other station, according to ratings data recently released by Arbitron Inc.
The station, owned by the Bend Radio Group, claimed the largest share — 10.8 — of listeners ages 12 and older in the fall 2009 survey period, according to Arbitron.
The station also held the top spot in the spring 2009 survey period and grew its share by 0.7 points from the 10.1 share it had among local radio listeners last period.
“That tells us we are doing things on the radio that audiences out there prefer, and that always makes for a great report card because that’s what advertisers are interested in,” said Jim Gross, an owner of the Bend Radio Group.
Rounding out the top five in the fall 2009 12-plus Arbitron ratings were contemporary pop station KXIX (94.1 FM, also known as Power 94) with a 9.0 share; classic rock station KTWS (98.3 FM, also known as The Twins) with a 7.1 share; classic hits station KQAK (105.7 FM) with a 6.1 share; and talk radio station KBND (1110 AM) with a 5.7 share.
The Bend Radio Group also owns KXIX. Combined Communications of Bend owns KTWS and KBND, and Bend-based Horizon Broadcasting Group owns KQAK.
