Ethel H. Sele

Ethel Sele was born on October 8, 1915 to Ida and Albert Higgin in Lake Bronson, Minnesota. She graduated from Lake Bronson High School. She married George Sele in 1934, They moved to Hallock, Minnesota in 1940. She was very active at Grace Lutheran Church, PTA, and was instrumental in founding Hallock Public Library. She and her husband avidly followed the activities of their three sons. She was an amazing Scandinavian cook, to the delight of her family and friends.

After her husband died in 1967, she moved to Bend, Oregon, where her sone Gene and his family lived. She taught Kindergarten, owned a restaurant and sold real estate. Ethers passions were her home, garden and art. She was an accomplished painter and potter and was a member of the Oregon Water Color Society. She was a published poet and short story author and loved to travel to visit family and friends.

Ethel moved to Portland in 2004 to be closer to family. She died peacefully on February 3, 2010 at age 94. She was preceded in death by her husband, George and her three brothers, Harold, Raymond, and Richard. She is survived by her three sons: Gene, Portland, OR; Gary, Irving TX; Michael, St. Paul, MN; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

A ”Celebration of Life” will be held at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 5650 SW Hall Blvd., Beaverton, OR at 2:00 p.m. February 20. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hallock Public Library, Hallock, MN 56728.
