PORTLAND — Hundreds of students at Portland’s Benson Polytechnic High School protested Tuesday against a proposal to turn the four-year school into a two-year vocational center for juniors and seniors.

Senior class president Sean Rice says he’s had a great experience at Benson and told The Oregonian “it just seems crazy” to take that experience away from freshmen and sophomores.

Students hung signs along windows that said, “Why ruin a school that works?”

The change is part of the overhaul proposed by the school district.
