A fire started by a blown transformer in a power pole spread to a 50-foot-by-150-foot area on Tuesday morning on Dodds Road, near U.S. Highway 20 east of Bend.

Bend firefighters and deputies from the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office were called to the fire just before 8 a.m., according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office. Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire, which was moving through dry grass along the west shoulder of Dodds Road. Central Electric Cooperative crews were dispatched to the scene to repair the transformer. Officials aren’t sure what caused the problem with the transformer, but do not believe criminal activity was involved.
