NEW YORK — Charlie Sheen’s representative says the actor was taken to a hospital after an allergic reaction to medication.

The spokesman, Stan Rosenfield, said Sheen is expected to be released today.

A law enforcement official said Sheen was hospitalized for a psychiatric evaluation after a woman told police he was throwing furniture in his room at New York City’s Plaza Hotel early Tuesday.

The official says the 45-year-old star of CBS’ “Two and a Half Men” was not arrested, but checked himself into a hospital for an evaluation.

The official was not authorized to speak publicly about the incident and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.
