The Cougars claimed the boys team title, the girls team title, and the combined boys and girls team title. South Eugene finished second and Ashland third in all three team categories.

Mountain View also won both the boys and girls 3×1-kilometer relays on Saturday.

The Cougar girls held off a hard-charging South Eugene team in the relay, according to Mountain View coach Eric Martin, winning by just one second.

“I was really proud of the girls in the relay,” Martin said. “I knew it was going to be close.”

Mountain View’s Mikhaila Thornton won the 5K classic Saturday, which also gave her the individual combined (freestyle and classic) state title.

The Cougars’ Hayati Wolfenden, who was third in the 5K classic, finished second in the combined results.

Jordan Zettle of Mountain View won the boys 5K classic, finishing just one second ahead of teammate Chase Nachtmann.

Nachtmann earned the individual combined title. Teammate Hunter Martinez was second, and Zettle finished third.
