GILLETTE, Wyo. — Bareback rider David Peebles, of Redmond, paced a host of Central Oregon standouts last week at the 2011 National High School Finals Rodeo.
Peebles, the younger brother of Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association bareback standout Steven Peebles, finished 15th in the NHSFR bareback standings. Peebles, who won the Oregon High School Rodeo Association bareback state title this year, made the short-go at the NHSFR but did not record an official ride in the championship round.
Jessica Jo Wood, of Terrebonne, was the top Central Oregon female finisher at the NHSFR. Wood, who won a state championship in goat tying this season, placed 22nd in that event at the NHSFR. Other Central Oregonians with top-50 finishes at nationals were: Danni Severance, of Prineville, 31st in breakaway roping; Nick Lehrke, of Bend, 35th in bareback; and Wyatt Bloom, of Bend, 45th in bareback.
Redmond cowboy T.J. McCauley, who won the 2011 OHSRA boys all-around title, placed 66th in tie-down roping at this year’s NHSFR and 64th in the boys cutting event.
In the team standings, Oregon placed 16th out of 43 states and Canadian provinces.
