Drag racing in Madras

MADRAS — The final event of the 2011 racing season at Madras Dragstrip is set for this weekend.
The Nostalgia Drags, featuring vehicles manufactured before 1980, will take place Saturday and Sunday at the racing strip, located just west of the Madras Airport.

Gates are scheduled to open at 8:30 a.m. both days, and racing is set to start with time trials at 10 a.m. Spectators are welcome; admission is $10 for adults and free for children age 12 and younger.
On Labor Day weekend, a 32-member team representing Madras Dragstrip — the Madras Heat — took part in the 2011 National Hot Rod Association Division 6 Summit ET Finals, staged at Firebird Raceway in Eagle, Idaho, near Boise. District 6 is made up of nearly 20 tracks representing the states of Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana, and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan.
The Madras Heat placed seventh in both the Race of Champions, held on Saturday, Sept. 3, and the Team Event portion of the finals, which took place on Sunday, Sept. 4.
