Free charges in Bend

While the power plugs at the new Deschutes National Forest headquarters won’t be available to the public to recharge their electric cars, there are two places to go for a free charge in Bend.

Green Savers, a company that improves the energy efficiency of homes, at 4 NW Franklin Ave. and Smolich Nissan at 1835 NE Highway 20 both have charging stations available 24 hours a day. However, the Nissan station is only for Nissan Leaf drivers, said Dirk Zanchin, Nissan sales manager at Smolich.

At night a glowing electric “E” marks the location of the Green Savers charging station in downtown Bend, said Kendra VanNote, who is in charge of community outreach and education for the company.

“It’s right along the parkway,” she said.
