• Central Oregon squad competes in national tournament: Representing the Pacific Northwest, a senior men’s tennis team from the Athletic Club of Bend took second in its pool but did not advance to knockout play at the United States Tennis Association 4.5 Seniors League National Championships. The event was staged this past Thursday through Sunday at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

The Bend team defeated squads from Kentucky, Arizona and Philadelphia, dropping its only match of the tournament to a Massachusetts squad that went on to place third overall. Athletic Club of Bend team members are: Tim Mullane, Doug Nelson, Gwil Evans, Ryk Arthur, Mike Drakulich, Paul Young, Edwin Jaffarian and Chuck Sheffield.
