Mountain View sweeps top IMC football awards

After rolling through Intermountain Hybrid football play undefeated this season, Mountain View, which hosts Lebanon on Friday night in a Class 5A state quarterfinal game, also dominated the league’s postseason awards.
Cougar senior quarterback Jacob Hollister received the offensive player of the year award, Mountain View linebacker Joel Skotte and cornerback Dimitri Dillard were named the league’s co-defensive players of the year, and Cougar coach Steve Turner took coach of the year honors. Nine Mountain View players at 11 positions — five on defense and six on offense — were selected to the all-Intermountain Conference first team.

Bend High placed seven players on the all-IMC first team, Redmond landed five first-team selections and Summit had two.

Outlaw senior signs with Alaska Anchorage
Sisters senior John Erickson has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at NCAA Division II University of Alaska Anchorage next season. Erickson, a 6-foot-4-inch guard for the Outlaws, averaged 18 points and five rebounds a game last season for Sisters.
Bend leads all-league girls soccer team
Bend High senior midfielder Maryn Beutler has been named the 2011 Intermountain Hybrid girls soccer player of the year and Lava Bear coach Mackenzie Groshong has been selected the league’s coach of the year. Bend, which won the Intermountain Hybrid, landed four girls on the all-Intermountain Hybrid first team in Beut-ler, senior defender Zoe Kilmer, sophomore forward Delaney Crook and senior goalkeeper Sally Spencer. Summit’s Kristen Parr, Rianna Aylward and Hayley Estopare were first-team selections, as were Mountain View’s McKayla Madison and Allie Cummins. Jesse Loper of Crook County and Monika Kohler of Redmond were their teams’ lone representatives on the all-Intermountain Hybrid first team. Mountain View grad nabs college honor
Hayden Mace, a 2008 graduate of Bend’s Mountain View High School and now a senior at Linfield College in McMinnville, has been named to the all-Northwest Conference football first team as an offensive guard. One of 12 Wildcats to receive all-NWC first-team honors, Mace has helped Linfield go 9-0 this season. The Wildcats host Cal Lutheran on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Cougars land five on all-IMC boys soccer first team
Intermountain Hybrid champion Mountain View placed five players on the all-IMC boys soccer first team, which was released this week. Cougar senior forward Eduardo Lopez was named player of the year and Mountain View coach Chris Rogers was named coach of the year. In addition to Lopez, senior forward Matt Larraneta, sophomore midfielder Logan Riemhofer, sophomore midfielder Zel Ray and senior goalkeeper Erick Avila all represent the Cougars on the all-league first team. Joining the five Mountain View players on the first team are Summit’s Andrew Orlich, Jacob Fritz and Michael Wilson, Bend’s Aldy Larson, Crook County’s Lucas Smith and Redmond’s Alex Mendez. Cowgirls, Storm dominate volleyball all-league
Crook County and Summit, the Class 4A and 5A state champions, respectively, each landed three players on the 2011 all-Intermountain Hybrid volleyball first team. Cowgirls Makayla Lindburg, Braiden Johnston and Kelsi Kemper were named to the all-league first team, as were the Storm’s Gabby Crowell, Hannah Harrer and Laney Hayes. Lindburg was selected as the Intermountain Hybrid’s player of the year, and Johnston was named the league’s libero of the year. Summit’s Jill Waskom was chosen as the Intermountain Hybrid coach of the year. Bend High’s Molly Maloney and Mountain View’s Rachel Buehner also were all-league first-team selections. White Buffs receive all-league volleyball honors
Madras players Lauren Simmons, Sarah Brown and Shani Rehwinkel have all been named to the 2011 all-Tri-Valley Conference volleyball first team. Also for the White Buffaloes, Laura Sullivan was selected to the all-league second team, and Shelby Mauritson received honorable mention. Madras finished third in the TVC this year with a 7-3 league record.
Two Madras players on TVC boys soccer first team
Madras standouts Hosvaldo Diaz, a senior, and Carlos Garcia, a junior, have been named to the 2011 all-Tri-Valley Conference boys soccer team. White Buffalo freshman Mario Urieta and sophomore Florencio Aguilar both received honorable mention. Madras placed fourth in the Tri-River Conference standings this season with a 5-5 league record.
Culver’s Retano named co-defensive player
Jesus Retano, a senior receiver and defensive back for Culver, has been named the Tri-River Conference’s co-defensive player of the year along with Scio linebacker Ben Jones. Retano, who was also selected to the all-TRC first team on both offense and defense, was one of only two Bulldogs to receive first-team honors.
