• Central Oregon lifters win world titles: Two Bend residents won their respective divisions at the World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters Worlds competition, held Nov. 1-6 in Reno, Nev. Two other Central Oregon competitors were runners-up in their divisions.
In the bench press competition, Bend’s Scott Edmondson placed first in the men’s submasters (ages 33 to 39) 220-pound division and second in the men’s open 220-pound division, lifting 589.5 pounds for an Oregon state record. Pressing 380.2 pounds, Bend’s Brian McLaughlin took first in the men’s Class I 181-pound division in bench press. For the dead lift, McLaughlin also took first in the men’s open 181-pound division and second in the men’s Class I 181-pound division with a lift of 534.5 pounds.
Murphy Knott, also of Bend, placed second in the men’s submaster 198-pound division with a bench press of 369.2 pounds. He also recorded a dead lift of 501.5 pounds to finish third in the men’s submaster 198-pound division.
Bill Caram, of Sunriver, placed second in the men’s submaster 181-pound division with a bench press of 303 pounds and fourth in the men’s submaster 181-pound division with a dead lift of 446.2 pounds.
