Robert “Bob” and Elizabeth “Bette” (DePeel) Bentley, of Culver, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a private celebration. Friends can send letters with photos and memories to P.O. Box 288, Culver, OR 97734.
The couple were married Feb. 3, 1952, in Marquam at the Bentley family farmhouse, while Mr. Bentley was on leave from the Korean War and stationed in Japan with the U.S. Air Force. After the wedding, the couple spent 10 days together before he had to return to Japan for a year. They have four children, Kathie Conley (and Steve Nash), of Redmond, Kim (and Alvin) Espinola, of Silver Lake, Karen (and Jim) Donker, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Roger (and Lauren), of New York; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bentley was an education specialist at Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem until his retirement in 1993. He is a member of the Masonic Lodge, the American Legion Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Silverton Elks. He enjoys collecting items, including stamps, business cards, matchbooks and marbles, and enjoyed putting together airplane models. Mrs. Bentley was secretary of public works for the city of Silverton until her retirement in 1993. She is a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary. She is a seamstress and enjoys crafts and reading.
They have lived in Central Oregon for seven years. They previously lived in Silverton for more than 53 years.
