• Indiana judge dismisses charges against ex-Pitt coach: An Indiana judge has dismissed a domestic battery charge against former Notre Dame offensive coordinator Michael Haywood, who served briefly as Pittsburgh’s head football coach before the case led to his firing. A St. Joseph Superior Court judge dismissed the charges Friday after determining Haywood had completed all terms of a pre-trial diversion program that included counseling and community service, the county prosecutor’s office said.
• Sun Devils add ex-Memphis coach Porter to staff: Former Memphis head coach Larry Porter has been added to the staff of new coach Todd Graham at Arizona State. Before taking the Memphis job two years ago, Porter was an assistant to Les Miles for five years at LSU, gaining a reputation as one of the top recruiters in the country. But Porter lasted just two seasons as a head coach and was fired last year after going 3-21 in his two seasons at Memphis.
• 49ers reward GM with extension: San Francisco 49ers general manager Trent Baalke received a three-year contract extension through the 2016 season. The 49ers made the announcement Friday, and team president and CEO Jed York tweeted that negotiations were finalized over a recent dinner — after the two had finished their chips and salsa. Baalke has been with the team in various jobs since 2005, when he was hired as a regional scout.
• Seattle signs OL Giacomini to two-year deal: The Seahawks and free agent offensive lineman Breno Giacomini have agreed to a two-year contract extension after Giacomini proved to be a valuable backup on Seattle’s offensive line. The Seahawks confirmed the deal on Friday. According to the NFL Players Association website, Giacomini will make $1.5 million in base salary for the 2012 season and $3 million in 2013.
• Patriots TE Gronkowski has ankle surgery: New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski had arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle Friday. The injury hampered Gronkowski in the Super Bowl, when he had just two catches for 26 yards in the 21-17 loss to the New York Giants in Indianapolis. His recovery schedule will last 10-12 weeks.
• Man charged with bomb threat during Saints game: A Michigan man was indicted Friday by a federal grand jury on a charge he phoned in a bomb threat to the Superdome during the New Orleans Saints’ playoff win over the Detroit Lions in January. Shawn H. Payton, 34, of Jackson, Mich., is charged with one count of sending threatening communications through interstate commerce, a charge that carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The FBI arrested Payton last month on a criminal complaint. He was freed on bond. Payton is scheduled to make his initial court appearance in New Orleans on Feb. 14. Prosecutors said Payton called the Superdome reception desk during the Jan. 7 game and claimed there was a bomb in the building.
