A Culver-area man was injured in a crash on U.S. Highway 26 five miles west of Madras Wednesday morning, the Oregon State Police said.

Daniel Zook, 55, was westbound in his Ford Mustang when he swerved to avoid hitting an animal — described as looking like a coyote or dog — at 10:10 a.m.

The car traveled into the eastbound lane, hit the side of a commercial truck and came to rest off the south shoulder. The truck came to a stop on the north side of the highway against a rock cliff.

The truck’s driver, Randy Albright, 50, of Bend, was not injured.

Zook was taken to St. Charles Redmond for treatment of minor injuries.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
