A fire that broke out in a detached garage in Deschutes River Woods this morning caused $20,000 in damage, the Bend Fire Department said.

Fire crews responded to the report of a garage fire on Apache Road at around 10:30 a.m. The family in a nearby home was evacuated, and the fire was extinguished by fire crews before it could spread.

It was later determined that a pile of wood had been placed directly next to a wood-burning stove in the garage and had ignited.
