Central Oregonians will be able to safely destroy documents for free at a shredding event held by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office on March 24.

Shredding will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office on U.S. Highway 20. Residents can bring paperwork and file folders; no presorting is needed. The shredding is free, though the Sheriff’s Office asks that participants bring a donation of nonperishable food to benefit NeighborImpact. The event is not intended for business or company document shredding.

Residents also can bring unwanted prescription medication or over-the-counter drugs to dispose of.
