ASHLAND — Southern Oregon University has terminated the head of Jefferson Public Radio in Ashland after an audit suggested his dual role running the radio stations and a fundraising foundation was a conflict of interest.
JPR Foundation President Scott Nelson told the Medford Mail Tribune newspaper on Monday that university President Mary Cullinan terminated Ron Kramer effective June 30.
Nelson says he hopes Kramer stays on as head of the foundation. Kramer has held the two posts since 1997. They pay a combined salary of $94,728.
The audit concluded the foundation’s debt ratio was twice as high as it should be. It added that a $7 million project — renovating the old Holly Theatre in Medford and moving the radio station to Medford — put a strain on the university’s own fundraising.
