Mountain View beats Madras in softball, wins fourth straight

MADRAS — Mountain View won its fourth consecutive softball game of the season Wednesday, knocking off host Madras 10-1 in a nonleague contest rescheduled from earlier in the year.

Cougar pitcher Shelbee Wells struck out five and allowed just two hits to lead Mountain View past the White Buffaloes.

“It was one of the better games I’ve seen her pitch,” Cougar coach Mike Durre said about Wells. “She located the ball really well and pitched to contact.”

Kylie Durre paced Mountain View’s offense by going three for four with a home run and four runs batted in. The Cougars (5-2) ended the game with 12 hits, five of which went for extra bases. Carrieann Elms went three for four with a triple and Hannah Wicklund, Megan McCadden and Jenna Henniger all posted doubles for Mountain View.

“We had a great day at the plate,” Mike Durre said.

Jamie Moe started in the circle for the Buffs (5-3), pitching two innings before Natalie Martin took over in the third. Moe was tagged with the loss after giving up five runs in two innings.

Raylene Jones posted an RBI single to highlight the Madras offense.

The Cougars are at Crook County on Friday, while the White Buffaloes are at Gladstone the same day.

PRINEVILLE — The Lava Bears scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally past the Cowboys in Intermountain Hybrid play. Jonah Koski led Bend at the plate, going three for three with a double, a triple and four runs batted in. Duke DeGaetano earned the win on the mound for the Lava Bears (3-2 overall) in relief. Crook County (8-3) led 8-4 after five innings, but Bend scored three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to complete the comeback. Sam Walker stood out for the Cowboys at the plate, ending the game with three hits. The Lava Bears host The Dalles Wahtonka on Saturday, and Crook County entertains the Eagle Indians on Tuesday.

SISTERS — Joey Morgan struck out five in three innings of work to lead the Outlaws to the Sky-Em League victory. Morgan also led Sisters’ offense with three runs batted in. The Outlaws (2-0 Sky-Em, 5-2 overall) scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Shane Groth added two doubles for Sisters, and Ryan Pollard ended the game two for two with an RBI. The Outlaws host Sweet Home on Friday.

JUNCTION CITY — The Tigers handed the Outlaws their third consecutive loss in the Sky-Em League contest, which went just six innings due to the 10-run rule. Sisters (0-2 league, 0-3 overall) is at Sweet Home on Friday.

MADRAS — The White Buffaloes split the four doubles matches but ultimately fell to the Cavaliers in nonconference play. Madras singles player Ryan Fine took out Blanchet Catholic’s Brian Fitzpatrick, 6-4, 7-5. The White Buffaloes’ doubles teams of Alexsis Penaloza and Caleb Freshour (6-4, 3-6, 6-1) and Jesus Vazquez and Adam Maldonado (6-2, 6-0) recorded victories. Madras hosts Redmond and Sisters among other teams in the Madras Invitational on Saturday.

Cramer, Storm win Sisters Invite

CROOKED RIVER RANCH — Summit senior Dylan Cramer posted a 1-under-par 70 to capture medalist honors while leading the Storm to a team victory at the Sisters Invitational at Crooked River Ranch Golf Course. All five of Summit’s golfers shot under 80 as the Storm recorded a 302 to best runner-up Bend High, which carded a 312. Redmond (350) and Sisters (356) finished third and fourth. The Lava Bears’ Ryan Crownover placed second, one shot back of Cramer, with an even-par 71. All four squads compete again Friday at the Intermountain Conference preview at Broken Top Club in Bend.

SALEM — Dylan Smith scored five goals, Glen Sherman added four scores and Holton Melville recorded seven assists and a goal as the Storm improved to 3-0 on the season with the nonleague victory over the Saxons. Summit opens High Desert Lacrosse League play on Saturday with a road match at Hermiston.

Freshmen Quinn Fettig and Cade Hinderlider each scored a goal for the Lava Bears, but it was not enough to get past the visiting Beavers in the nonleague game. Bend (3-2) hosts Tualatin on Saturday.
