- Robert and Barbara (Elmer) Borlen.
Robert (Bob) and Barbara (Elmer) Borlen, of Bend, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family party in California in August. They plan to spend several weeks next summer re-taking their honeymoon trip.
The couple were married Sept. 15, 1962, in Tigard. They were engaged just two months after their first date and married nine months later. They have three children, Audrae (and Ken) Odegaard, of Lakeview, Susan (and Lane) Dukart, of Masonville, Colo., and Matthew (and Jennifer), of Alfalfa; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Mr. Borlen owned and operated Borlen Electric for 25 years, and Mrs. Borlen was a home designer. In the early 1990s they both started an organics-recycling business with their son, called Agri-Cycle, Inc., and also Borlen Cattle Co., a ranch in Alfalfa, where they raise beef. They are semi-retired.
Mr. Borlen enjoys spending time on the ranch and working with his son and the cattle. Mrs. Borlen enjoys foreign travel. They both enjoy spending time with their family and friends, camping, dancing, card games, hiking and gardening.
They have lived in Central Oregon for 40 years.
