Here is the weekly fishing report for selected areas in and around Central Oregon, provided by fisheries biologists for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife:

CENTRAL ZONE

ANTELOPE FLAT RESERVOIR: Fishing has been slow, but anglers are still reporting 18- to 20-inch trout. Fishing should begin to pick up with the cooling weather.

BEND PINE NURSERY POND: Trout fishing should pick up with cooler temperatures.

BIG LAVA LAKE: No recent reports, but fishing should be good.

BIKINI POND: Warm temperatures have slowed rainbow trout fishing, but anglers might do well warm water fishing in nearby Columbia River backwater areas. The pond will be stocked with trophy rainbow the week of Oct. 8, if water temperatures cool.

CLEAR LAKE RESERVOIR: Water level in the reservoir is at low levels due to irrigation demand. Anglers typically find good fall success, but should be reminded the boat ramp may be difficult to access due to low water levels.

CRANE PRAIRIE RESERVOIR: Trout fishing should pick up with cooling temperatures.

CRESCENT LAKE: Kokanee fishing has been good.

CROOKED RIVER BELOW BOWMAN DAM: Fishing for trout has been good.

DAVIS LAKE: Water is much higher than normal, and all boat ramps are accessible. Please note this is a fly-fishing only lake. Please check your synopsis for the regulations for this water body.

DESCHUTES RIVER (mouth to the Pelton Regulating Dam): Summer steelhead fishing on the lower Deschutes remains good in October. Good numbers of fish are being found by anglers from the mouth upstream to the South Junction areal. Good numbers of fish are now passing Sherars Falls, and fishing will be improving upstream of Maupin. Good numbers of large B-run steelhead have been observed in recent creel samples. Good numbers of Fall chinook are now in the river, offering excellent opportunity. Limits of bright fall chinook have been reported from the Sherars Falls area.

DESCHUTES RIVER (Lake Billy Chinook to Bend): No recent reports, but there should be good fishing for rainbow and brown trout. Rainbow trout average 10 to 16 inches, while brown trout up to 26 inches are available. Anglers will find better access downstream of Lower Bridge.

EAST LAKE: Chub removal has resulted in larger trout and fewer incidental catches of chubs. Anglers have reported good fishing.

FALL RIVER: Fishing is good.

HOOD RIVER: A few summer steelhead are available in the Hood River. Anglers should be aware that warm temperatures will cause water quality issues, as glacial turbidity will hinder success during periods of warm summer weather. Hood River is closed for chinook fishing.

HOSMER LAKE: Open to fishing and annual population sampling indicates that Atlantic salmon and brook trout populations are healthy. Fishing on Hosmer is restricted to fly fishing with barbless hooks.

LAKE BILLY CHINOOK: Fishing for smallmouth bass has been good. Fishing for kokanee has picked up as the fish are staging in the Metolius arm prior to entering the Metolius River to spawn.

LOST LAKE: Lost Lake has been stocked with legal and trophy-sized rainbow trout, and offers great opportunity during the heat of the summer. The combination of carry-over trout from 2011, newly stocked rainbow trout, and naturally produced brown trout makes Lost Lake a great place to take the family fishing.

METOLIUS RIVER: Trout fishing has been good. Insect hatches should offer lots of opportunities for good dry-fly fishing.

NORTH TWIN: No recent reports, but earlier angler reports indicated better than average fishing.

OCHOCO RESERVOIR: No recent reports. With the warm water temperature, the best fishing will be for the bass, crappie and bullhead. Trout may still be caught but it will be more difficult than in the spring and fall. The low water may make launching a boat difficult.

ODELL LAKE: Kokanee fishing good on the lake’s west end.

PAULINA LAKE: Fishing is good. ODFW recently completed chub trapping operations. The chub trapping program is designed to reduce competition with game species and increase the size of trout.

PINE HOLLOW RESERVOIR: Pine Hollow was recently stocked with trophy-sized rainbow and should provide good success. Fall fishing in Pine Hollow can be productive, as water temperatures cool.

PRINEVILLE RESERVOIR: Fishing for bass, crappie and bullhead catfish should be good. Anglers are reporting more bass and larger smallmouth bass than in recent years. Anglers have reported catching larger trout than in recent years. Anglers should consult the 2012 Sport Fishing Regulations for maximum length requirements and bag limits for both largemouth and smallmouth bass.

PRINEVILLE YOUTH FISHING POND: Fishing will be best in the cooler times of the day, especially the morning.

ROCK CREEK RESERVOIR: Very low water levels will limit success.

SHEVLIN YOUTH FISHING POND: Shevlin has been stocked and is fishing well.

SOUTH TWIN LAKE: Fishing is good.

SUTTLE LAKE: Recent fish sampling showed excellent trophy brown trout opportunity.

TAYLOR LAKE: Fishing for large largemouth bass should be excellent. Trophy rainbow trout will be stocked the week of Oct. 8, if water temperatures cool.

WALTON LAKE: Fishing has been good with the best fishing occurring during the cooler times of the day and near the springs.

WICKIUP RESERVOIR: High water will spread out kokanee this fall, but there is opportunity for large kokanee.
