Central Oregon a top golf destination — Golf Digest ranked Central Oregon No. 12 on its list of “The Best Places for Buddies Golf Getaways,” which is in the magazine’s January issue.

Golf Digest asked 1,100 of its panelists to rate U.S. destinations they have visited by scoring them on a scale of one through 10, according to the magazine.

Central Oregon was cited for the appeal of its public-access courses — primarily Pronghorn Club’s Nicklaus Course, Tetherow Golf Club and Sunriver’s Crosswater Club. All three are ranked in Golf Digest’s list of America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses, which were selected by the same 1,100 panelists.

This region was not the top pick from Oregon. The Southern Oregon Coast was picked No. 1 based primarily on Bandon Dunes Golf Resort.

But Central Oregon was picked ahead of some familiar golf destinations such as Hawaii’s Big Island (No. 13), Coeur d’Alene, Idaho (No. 19), Las Vegas (No. 22) and Phoenix (No. 23).
