A Cascade Disposal garbage truck was destroyed after it caught fire Thursday afternoon in a southeast Bend neighborhood, the Bend Fire Department said.
The garbage truck, which was parked on Bartlett Lane, caught fire around 1 p.m. after a hydraulic line in the truck failed and sprayed flammable hydraulic fluid onto the hot surface of the engine. Fire crews arrived at the scene to find the truck fully engulfed in flames, and the fire threatening to spread due to high winds. The crews were able to snuff out the fire before it could spread to any nearby homes.
The fire caused $200,000 in damage to the vehicle.
