Summit girls golf rolls to victory

REDMOND — Summit may not have boasted the field’s top performer, but three Storm golfers placed in the top 10 to lead Summit to a first-place finish as a team at the Ridgeview Invitational girls golf tournament at the Ridge Course at Eagle Crest on Friday.

Madison Odiorne led the way for the Storm with a 3-over-par 75 to take fourth overall in the 58-player field, as Summit topped the nine-team standings with a score of 330. The Storm bested second-place Crescent Valley (352). Sarah Heinly finished sixth with an 80, and Megan Mitchell recorded an 84 to tie for ninth.

West Albany’s Kalyn Thayer shot a 2-under 70 to take medalist honors.

Bend High, which finished in fifth place as a team with a mark of 382, saw Heidi Froelich snag a spot in the top 10 with an 84. Madeline Rice chipped in by shooting an 87.

Caitlyn Dalton’s 99 paced Crook County, which took seventh with a score of 440, and Emily Roundtree (88) and Cayla Lussier (90) led the way for Redmond High, which rounded out the team standings at 473.

Other top performers from Central Oregon high schools were Madras’ Lauren Simmons (94), Trinity Lutheran’s Victoria Sample (95), Ridgeview’s Tianna Brown (105) and Mountain View’s Ellen Nopp (107).

SOFTBALL

Sisters 3, Elmira 0: ELMIRA — Cassidy Edwards struck out 14 and allowed just one hit in the Outlaws’ Sky-Em League victory over the Falcons. Sisters (8-2 overall, 2-1 Sky-Em) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning after Harley Rowe knocked in a run and Taylor Nieri scored on a passed ball. Maddie Edwards made it 3-0 in the fourth with an RBI single.

Sweet Home 10, La Pine 0: LA PINE — The injury-plagued Hawks lost in a Sky-Em League game that ended after five innings. Freshman Brenna Carpenter pitched well in defeat, striking out three while allowing eight hits and three walks. La Pine (6-8, 0-2 Sky-Em) managed just one hit, a single by Shyann Michael in the first inning.

Regis 6, Culver 3: CULVER — Sara McKinney took the loss despite striking out 12 Regis hitters. The Bulldogs trailed 5-0 after three innings and never led in the Special District 3 contest. Ashley Wilda shined at the plate for Culver, recording a single, a double and one run batted in. McKinney added two hits as well, one of which was a double. The Bulldogs (2-11 overall, 1-2 SD3) scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning.

BASEBALL

Sisters 10, Elmira 1: SISTERS — The Outlaws cruised again in Sky-Em League play and improved to 3-0 in league and 10-2 overall. Joey Morgan earned the win, striking out eight over five innings. Sisters led 2-1 after 3 1⁄2 innings but scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth and added five more in the bottom of the fifth to break open the game. Ben Larson was three for three with an RBI to lead the Outlaw offense. Larson has gone six for six in his past six at-bats. Morgan added a two-for-three performance that included a double, and Jardon Weems contributed two hits and an RBI.

Sweet Home 13, La Pine 3: SWEET HOME — The host Huskies scored in every inning to claim a rain-soaked Sky-Em League win via the 10-run rule. La Pine (2-11 overall, 1-2 Sky-Em) was limited to one hit, a fourth-inning single by Lee Ries.

Ridgeview splits with Eagle Point: REDMOND — Tyler Ross was the winning pitcher and had two hits for Ridgeview (6-3) in the Ravens’ 3-1 victory in the second game of a nonleague home doubleheader. A squeeze bunt by Garrett DeWolf highlighted a three-run sixth inning that made a winner of Ross, who allowed two hits and struck out seven over five innings. The Eagles took the opener 10-8 despite three hits apiece by Mitch Springer, Dakota Schaumburg and Kahl Malott.

BOYS GOLF

Rodby claims top honors: REDMOND — Redmond High’s Mason Rodby shot a 37 on the back nine of Juniper Golf Club to finish with a 5-over-par 77, besting Summit’s T.K. Wasserman by one stroke to finish first overall. The Storm took top team honors, however, with a score of 321. Redmond was second with a 339. Jimi Seeley highlighted the day for Ridgeview by shooting an 80, Kody Kuk paced Crook County with an 84, and Mason Krieger led Mountain View with an 88.

Track and field

Lopez leads Cowboys to second place: VALE — Alonzo Lopez won the 400-meter run and ran the anchor leg of the winning 400-meter relay squad, as Crook County finished second as a team with 103 1⁄4 points at the Oregon Trail Invitational at Frank Hawley Stadium. Idaho’s Weiser High won with 105 1⁄2 points. Luis Rivera took first in the 800, and Chance Sutfin did the same in the discus. For the girls, it was McKenzie Zirbel leading the way for Crook County with a win in the 100-meter dash while running the first leg of the winning 400 relay team. The Cowgirls finished fourth as a team with 85 points. La Grande won with 105.

BOYS LACROSSE

Bend 14, Sheldon 1: Cade Hinderlider scored six goals to lead Bend High to the home victory over the Irish from Eugene at Hal Puddy Field. James Rockett scored three goals, Brandon Fitzpatrick scored two, and Daniel Nase, Jake Miller and Eli Pite added one apiece for the Lava Bears (3-2). Nase also had two assists for Bend, as did Geoff Mouser.
