Youths age 15-18 are being recruited to serve in an education and work program through the Heart of Oregon Corps in conjunction with the Ochoco and Deschutes national forests and the Crooked River National Grassland.

The program offers summer employment for teens, who will work on completing conservation projects for the U.S. Forest Service.

Students need to apply for the eight-week program by April 25. Applications are available through the Heart of Oregon Corps at www.heartoforegon.org.

Approximately 100 students will be selected for the program. Each will work about 36 hours per week and will earn $8.95 an hour.

Students will work nine hours a day Monday through Thursday, from June 25 to Aug. 16.

Projects will include maintaining fences, building trails, restoring campgrounds, working to improve wildlife habitat and other conservation work.

Crews will be based in Crescent, Bend, Sisters, Redmond, Prineville, La Pine, Mitchell and Madras.
